Ray Ng, Managing Partner

Born in Hong Kong and educated in the U.K. since the age of 13, Ray graduated from the University of Bristol in UK with a LLB degree and Legal Practice Course Degree in 1995. After working as a trainee solicitor at Deacons Solicitors in HK, Ray qualified as a lawyer in 1997 and worked as an associate in the corporate finance department of Richards Butler, a firm specializing in corporate finance law. Ray founded the club Fly in 2003, and was a co-founder of Buzz, Ray is responsible in overseeing the group’s overall Operations, Corporate Finance and Business Development Division.

Jaime Ho Ku, Managing Partner

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Jaime spent 7 years in the Bay Area of California, during which time she attended high school at the private girls’ school Castilleja in Palo Alto and university at UC Berkeley. She then worked a year at a premium online city guide in San Francisco before returning to Hong Kong in 2001 to work in communications at she.com, an online/offline promotional company, for 5 years managing prestigious clients such as Heineken, Samsung, etc. Jaime is the 2013 recipient of Tatler Magazine’s Asia’s Most Stylish award and a member of their 500 List. Like Ray, she founded club Fly and was a co-founder of Buzz, Jaime is responsible in overseeing the group’s overall Operations, Administration, and Marketing.

Calvin KU, F&B Director

Born in Edmonton, Canada, and educated in Hong Kong and United States, Calvin graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. After university, Calvin moved to New York City and attended the French Culinary Institute where he was trained in professional culinary arts and restaurant management. After graduating, he worked in several restaurants in NYC and as a chef consultant, helped open two very successful restaurants in downtown Manhattan. Calvin returned to Hong Kong in 2007 and joined Buzz in February 2008. He is responsible in overseeing the group’s restaurant divisions, monitoring their operations and the group’s overall Food and Beverage quality, suppliers and inventories.

Benedict KU, Creative Director

Born in Canada, Benedict grew up in Hong Kong, attended high school in Massachusetts, and graduated from renowned art school Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with dual degrees in Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture. After working in New York under a furniture designer, Benedict returned to Hong Kong to work for his home décor and artificial floral manufacturing family business, while owning a local jewelry brand called ROCK CANDY and DJing part time at VOLAR Hong Kong. Benedict is a longstanding member of Tatler’s 500 List and a recipient of their Most Stylish Man award. Benedict also founded Fly Club and Buzz, and is involved with Buzz’s artistic, design and music concept directions.

Jonathan CHEUNG, Managing Partner

Born in Hong Kong, Jonathan completed his undergraduate degree at the prestigious Parsons School of Design and further received his graduate degree at University College London in International Real Estate & Planning. A young Tatler favourite, Jonathan’s father is Edwin Hon Kit Cheung, Chairman of ITC Properties and has lead Buzz to rapidly expand its events and public relations department for luxury brands and real estate.

Buzz Concepts owns and operates some of the top nightlife venues and restaurant destinations in the city. Founded in 2004, the company specializes in creating concepts that continue to define the city’s entertainment scene; offering novel experiences to discerning patrons in Hong Kong. Included in the Buzz Concepts’ family are hotspots such as award-winning underground club VOLAR, urban playground FLY, cocktail haunt and contemporary American chophouse LILY & BLOOM, and their newest project, TIGER CURRY, a hip curry joint with three locations in Causeway Bay and Harbour City. Drawing from their expertise in marketing and communications, Buzz Concepts branched out in 2008 to manage external PR projects, covering high-profile events and brand launches with their own signature style of cutting-edge execution and unmistakable panache. Under the Buzz Agency umbrella, Buzz events are noted for their highly-tailored guest lists as well as their unfailing ability to leave a lasting impression.

About

Fly is where it all began. Buzz Concepts’ very first venue was reopened in 2010 catering to a myriad of partygoers. A playful front-porch decked out with a comfort couch offers a respite from the action inside, where everything is amplified. The 3500 sq ft dance club’s massive Turbosound system churns out heart-thumping beats produced from behind the jet-black DJ booth, and a LED wall provides flashes of colour, illuminating the action on the dance floor. From happy hour, late into the night, Fly’s graffiti-clad concrete walls house the city’s coolest urban music playground.

The chilled out vibe of the eatery is made apparent through its funky design. Mixing elements of Japanese pop culture with modern black and yellow features, Tiger Curry’s key design element will be a three story high wall painted by local Hong Kong-based street artist 4Get, who is known internationally for his geometrical, abstract designs.
